Directions – to the Coach House, Boords Farm, Batcombe BA4 6HD
Sat. Nav. will get you to Batcombe but not always the most direct route. Also please note because of the rural location there is more than one house on the post code. The following directions will give you accurate, specific directions.
From
London leaving on M3.
M3 to A 303 exit No.8 Take B3081 signed Bruton
and Charlton Musgrove. (This is the exit after
Mere/Stourhead exit).
Enter Bruton in the oneway system. At end
of High Street take left hand turning up Coombe
Street. At top of hill fork right signed Batcombe.
Follow signs to Batcombe (approx.2 ½ miles).
Enter village at cross roads and turn left.
The church will now be on your right hand side.
Pass the church and enter area of natural stone
buildings and walls.
Do NOT go down Mill Lane but stay on road through
village to tight right hand bend with high
wall. Boords Farm is on this corner on the
left – Drive up into parking area. The
Coach House is on the right.
From
London leaving on the M4
From M4 take Chippenham exit 17 following Frome
direction A361. After Frome bypass follow signs
to Shepton Mallet and at Nunney Catch roundabout
take the first exit left onto A359 to Bruton.
Pass through village of Wanstrow. Approx. 1 ½ miles
after take right hand fork to Batcombe. Large
Parish sign is approx. 1 mile from village.
Follow road through Batcombe, pass the church
and enter area of natural stone buildings and
walls very close to the road. Do NOT go down
Mill Lane but stay on road through village
to tight right hand bend with high wall. Boords
Farm is on this corner on the left – Drive
up into parking area. The Coach House is on
the right.
From
M5 take Exit 15 onto M4. Take
next exit 19 onto M32
Follow signs to Bath and then onto A37 to Shepton
Mallet ( N.B. surprise left hand fork just
before Ston Easton where A37 leaves A39)
Through Gurney Slade. See left hand fork to
Bath A367 and immediately after on brow of
hill take left hand turn signed FROME. (You
do not have to go into Shepton Mallet)
This is a minor road but dead straight; an
old Roman Road. Go past Waggon and Horses
pub. At T junction turn right and continue
down to main Shepton Mallet /Frome road. Go
straight across. Stay on this small country
road, do not leave, and follow signs to Batcombe.
As you drop down into the village, the road
has steep sides with overhanging trees. See
Boords Farm on right, third driveway down.
Drive up into parking area. The Coach House
is on the right.
Coming
from Ireland – car ferry
-Travelling from Pembroke Dock
or Haverford West -
Take road to Bristol. Leave
on A37 signed Shepton Mallet.
Pick up directions above from M5 Ston Easton
and Gurney Slade etc.
From
the Bath and West Showground (site
of New Wine, Bath and West
Show, Antiques Fair etc.) we
are ten minutes away.
Almost opposite the main entrance gates see
the turning to Evercreech. Take this road into
Evercreech. Take first turning left in main
square ( just past the pharmacy). At the cross
roads turn right followed by second left, following
signposts to Batcombe. Pass through open countryside
for 2 ½ miles through Westcombe and
keep on the SAME road to rather awkward offset
cross roads with a white house (with green
windows) perched in the middle of a triangle
of roads. Turn right here – drop down
into the village of Batcombe. Boords Farm is
third driveway on the right. Drive up into
parking area. The Coach House is on the right.
By
Train
The nearest train station is approximately
5 miles away at Castle Cary, which is on the
main line to London Paddington. Transport can
be arranged (by prior agreement) and there is a taxi usually waiting at the station. It is probably essential for one member of a visiting party to have a car while staying at Boords Farm ( or bicycle).
